Website rates "walkability" of a home

With gas prices reaching an all time high (last week I paid $4.89/gal) people in Seattle are turning to a new website called http://www.walkstore.com.

The creaters of Walk Score measured the Walk Score of 77 Seattle neighborhoods and created a walkability map to help you find Seattle's most walkable places to live. The site sizes up restaurants, schools, parks, shopping and other destinations and then gives the neighborhood a score of 0-100.

Walk Score helps people find houses and apartments in walkable neighborhoods. Walk Score shows you a map of what's nearby and calculates a Walk Score for any property. Living in a walkable neighborhood is good for the environment and good for your health. Wouldn't it be cool if this was a feature of every listing that hit the market?

Visit www.walkscore.com to find out when Walk Scores will be available in your neighborhood.

Thanks for posting this. My house got 75%. I do consider it really walkable, but their choices for grocery stores, clothing, movie theaters and libraries don't really qualify in my book. There are other possibilities in walking distance for most of these categories, though. I think they need to check their listings :) Really, though some of these things are also very culturally based and I probably won't ever shop at the same grocery or clothing stores as some of my neighbors.
